The Hurrah Players Performing Arts Academy and TV & Film Academy together provide a comprehensive, hands-on arts education experience for young people in Coastal Virginia.
Located in Norfolk’s NEON District, the academies serve students from early childhood through high school, offering professional training in both live theatre and digital media production.
The Performing Arts Academy focuses on stage performance, offering year round classes, spring break and summer camps in acting, musical theatre, voice, dance, improvisation, and stagecraft. Students build strong foundations in technique while developing confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Through a “learning by doing” approach, students have opportunities to audition for and perform in mainstage musicals, studio productions, showcases, and seasonal camps, gaining real-world performance experience in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Expanding storytelling beyond the stage, the TV & Film Academy equips students ages 12–19 with industry-based training in filmmaking, on-camera acting, scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, animation, photography, and studio production. Using professional equipment and hands-on project learning, students take projects from concept to screen while building technical skills and creative portfolios that prepare them for college and future careers in media arts.
Together, the academies create a unified pathway for young artists to explore storytelling in all forms — from spotlight to screen. Rooted in over 40 years of excellence, The Hurrah Players foster artistic growth, leadership, confidence, and collaboration, empowering students to discover their voice and bring their stories to life.
